Personally I find that it smells creamy and sweet but I’m not getting the typical sandalwood scent. For some it might feel like a perfumed incense rather than a truly authentic incense.

I'm a meditation teacher and as such, a big fan of incense and the unique sensory experience different scents provide and the impact it has on our emotional states. I have tried and used dozens of different scents in my classes over the years.
A friend's dad brought some home from a trip to Japan and knowing my affinity for incense, gave me a bundle. I love the way this incense makes me feel. It is *the* most grounding, comforting sandalwood incense I've ever smelled. I keep it in an open container next to my bed, where I can smell it without even burning it. Although, I do, of course burn it as well. Even though she gifted me a generous bunch, I knew I had to find it.
Japanese Taste is the only site I found where I was fairly certain I was ordering the right thing; this incense company makes many different scents and has different city collections, making it kind of confusing.
